Roughly 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Cars, building surfaces and postal boxes were defaced, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a release.
Law enforcement say they were alerted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.
The fluid had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.
Officers then discovered multiple other marked automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement say initial examinations indicate the fluid was most likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; authorities are presently not aware of any injuries in association with the event," they added.
Local authorities said they were working "to resolve the mystery" and have asked to the public for information.
A high-ranking official commented the vandalism made him stunned and required to be resolved promptly.
"This act strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right attack in 2020," he stated on online, mentioning the murder of nine people by a shooter targeting people of migrant background in 2020.
