Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been earned on hard courts

A resurgent Medvedev claimed his first title for over two years with success over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The Russian, a former world number one, has endured a challenging season, winning just one match at the Grand Slams and undergoing a setback at the American major.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serve in particular - led to him falling of the world's top 10 and ultimately separating with long-term mentor Cervara.

Presently collaborating with Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested three-set victory over opponent Corentin Moutet.

It is the player's first trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hardcourt after March of the previous year.

Success also indicates the Russian has achieved 21 titles at 21 various events.

"For the first time I am participating in a tournament with my both daughters together, so to secure a championship is particularly special," commented world number 14 Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my child my daughter, because the initial championship I got when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had lost his last six title deciders, comprising in Halle in the past months.

The player's defensive play style and regular emotional displays on the playing surface had led commentators to doubt if his skill to play at the elite level was finished.

However the player has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and compete positively, backed up by an improved serving game.

He came back from a disadvantage in the first set against the challenging Frenchman, winning 4 of the final five points to take the lead.

The competitors swapped break points in the following set before the Frenchman, attempting for his maiden professional victory, gained dominance to force a final set.

Moutet defended four early-game break points in a tight final set before Medvedev broke to that score to secure the win.

Fittingly, the winner clinched victory with a point at the net, with the Frenchman incapable to control a volley after a lengthy match.
